'Saaho'-'Blade Runner 2049' to 'Ra.One'-'Batman Begins': 10 times when Bollywood copied Hollywood

With Bollywood filmmakers opting to play safe nowadays by creating sequels to their already hit films and remaking South blockbuster films, lack of originality seems to become a huge issue. Not only that but there are times when Bollywood has gone a step ahead and made films inspired by Hollywood but on a few occasions they have crossed the line and emulated posters of foreign films as well. Scroll down to have a glimpse of the times when Bollywood copied Hollywood.

2/11

Saaho and Blade Runner 2049

The first glimpse of Prabhas' 'Saaho' did create a stir amidst the fans but on the contrary, was also criticized for copying the poster of Ryan Gosling’s 'Blade Runner 2049'. The striking resemblance of the posters did raise the question of lack of creativity in Bollywood. Meanwhile, the Sujeeth directorial has managed to excel at the box-office, it failed to impress the critics as it ended up with poor reviews.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Lords of Dogtown

Zoya Akhtar's film 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' starring an ensemble cast of Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif, and Kalki Koechlin turned out to be a blockbuster and gave us major friendship goals. Apart from that, the film also inspired many to take memorable trips with their BFF's but the first poster of the film made headlines for its uncanny resemblance with Catherine Hardwicke's 2005 film 'Lords of Dogtown'.

4/11

Ra.One and Batman Begins

Shah Rukh Khan's sci-fi action flick 'Ra.One' which also featured Kareena Kapoor Khan managed to impress the audience in the theatres and did good business as well but the poster of the film seemed to be a carbon copy of Christopher Nolan's 'Batman Begins' which featured Christian Bale. The similarity in both the poster did spark off some controversy but the film's collection seemed to be unfazed by it.

5/11

Agent Vinod and Johnny English Reborn

Saif Ali Khan's spy flick 'Agent Vinod' which is helmed by Sriram Raghavan might have failed to allure the audience to the theatres but the film's poster surely grabbed a lot of eyeballs. The poster of Saif looks to be copied from Oliver Parker's 'Johnny English Reborn' which starred Rowan Atkinson also as a detective. While 'Johnny English Reborn' managed to leave a mark at the box-office, Saif and Kareena's 'Agent Vinod' failed miserably.

6/11

Anjaana Anjaani and An Education

Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra's performance in 'Anjaana Anjaani' was hailed by critics but the film couldn't capitalise on it as it failed at the box-office. The film made headlines due to several reasons one of which was its poster which seemed to be a replica of Carrey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard's film 'An Education'. The posters of both the film have the leading pair lying next to one another in a similar fashion.

7/11

Murder 2 and Anti-Christ

Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer 'Murder 2' was dragged into several controversies as the posters of the film seemed to be a duplicate of different foreign films. While the first poster seemed to be copied from Danish film 'Anti-Christ', the other one was said to be taken from South Korean film 'Bad Guy'. The Mohit Suri directorial was a part of the popular 'Murder' franchise.

8/11

Kites and The Notebook

One of Hrithik Roshan's most ambitious film 'Kites' which featured Hollywood actress Barbara Mori alongside the talented actor failed miserably and the poster of the film was also criticized to be a copied from Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams' famous flick 'The Notebook'. The posters of both the films showcase the chemistry between the leading actors of the film.

9/11

Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge and License to Wed

Ashwni Dhir's hilarious comedy 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge' which revolves around the lives of Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal grabbed netizens attention when the makers of the film released the poster of the film which resembled like Mandy Moore and Robin Williams' 'License to Wed' poster. The films are also based on similar plot lines.

10/11

Dilwale and The Best of Me

Rohit Shetty multi-starrer 'Dilwale' might have managed to impress the audience but it created havoc on social media when the first poster of the film was released. The poster which features Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon looks like a complete replica of Michael Hoffman's 'The Best of Me'. Reports also suggested that Shetty's film was a copy of 'The Best of Me'.

11/11

Aitraaz and The Graduate

Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Priyanka Chopra's romantic-thriller 'Aitraaz' might have helped the actors carve a niche for themselves in Bollywood but the film's poster seemed to have been taken from the iconic 'The Graduate'. Even the premise of the film was said to be similar to the American film 'Disclosure'.
