Rohit Shetty once revisited one of the most memorable comedy scenes from the 2010 blockbuster 'Golmaal 3' during an interaction with the media. The sequence, featuring
Mukesh Tiwari's popular character Vasooli Bhai, continues to enjoy a cult following among fans and remains one of the most widely shared comedy moments from the Golmaal franchise.
During the conversation with Mashable India, Rohit fondly recreated the famous dialogue from the scene, saying, “Abbe jaldi bol kal subah Panvel nikalna hai... Dandi wohi aapke paise le gaya... Jaldi kar Panvel nikalna hai.” ("Come on, talk faster! I've got to leave for Panvel first thing tomorrow morning. Dandi is the guy who took your money. Hurry up, I need to get to Panvel!" )
Director shares the story behind the scene
While discussing the sequence, Rohit Shetty revealed how the now-iconic moment was conceived during the making of the film. Sharing a behind-the-scenes detail, he said, “Woh aur Mukesh ko Panvel jaana tha shooting pe.” ("He and Mukesh had to go to Panvel for a shoot." ) The director explained that the scene emerged from a simple idea linked to the shooting schedule. Over the years, the dialogue became a pop-culture reference and continues to be quoted by fans across social media platforms.
Why Rohit Shetty says he can't repeat it today
Although the scene remains popular, Rohit admitted that creating a similar sequence in today's environment would be difficult. Speaking candidly about changing audience expectations, he said, “Lekin main baat bataun... Tab tab yeh 2010 mein kiya hai. Audience forgiving thing. Aaj agar main stammering daal dunga na, shaam tak main troll ho jaunga.” ("But let me tell you something... We did that back in 2010. Audiences were much more forgiving then. If I include a stammering joke today, I'll be getting trolled by evening." )
According to the filmmaker, the entertainment landscape has evolved significantly over the last decade. Audience sensitivities have changed, and social media reactions now play a major role in shaping public discussions around films.
Golmaal franchise returns with fifth installment
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty is preparing to bring back one of Bollywood's most successful comedy franchises with 'Golmaal 5'. On his 52nd birthday, the filmmaker officially announced the start of filming and shared a special video featuring members of the franchise. The clip reunited familiar faces including Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade. The announcement video also featured the return of Sharman Joshi, who appeared in a humorous segment before being joined by the rest of the cast. The filmmaker further revealed that Akshay Kumar would also be part of the project, adding another major attraction to the film.
Along with the video, Rohit shared an emotional message celebrating two decades of the franchise. He wrote, "20 years ago, the first Golmaal was released, a film that changed my life. The credit goes to you, my audience. Over the past 20 years, we have entertained you, and yes, sometimes disappointed you, but we have always been honest in our work. So now, once again, my fabulous team and I are set on a journey to entertain you as we start filming G5. You have always loved and supported me. All we need is your blessings. See you at the movies @tseries. official @rohitshettypicturez."
