Richa Chadha: Akshaye Khanna is the most secure co-star one can ever come across

Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chadha will be seen playing lawyers in director Ajay Bahl’s next, Section 375 that releases this week. The film revolves around a rape case being heard in the court. Akshaye plays Tarun Saluja who represents the accused and Richa plays Hiral Gandhi who represents the survivor. As a part of their role-play, the actors had to be involved in arguments without getting too loud or dramatic.The courtroom drama plays out on their dynamics.
Talking about her co-star, Richa told us, “He’s such an underrated guy! He’s a brilliant actor and the most secure co-star one can ever come across. Akshaye is a generous guy and a very giving actor.I have been a big fan of his work. Since we play lawyers on opposing sides, we just kept our on-set communication minimal. One particular day, I was struggling with my lines. It was a long monologue and while I remembered the lines, I wasn’t getting the expressions right. Ajay is a demanding director and if anyone fumbles in his master scene, he or she has to start the scene or dialogue from the beginning. I respect him for being that tough. That day, Akshaye walked up to me, and said, ‘You’re doing everything well and you’re still lacking Richa, Think about what the lines mean to you, as a person.’ I’ve worked with all kinds of people, men and women but I have never seen a more generous artiste. I love the dynamic our characters share. We belong to different backgrounds and his character is my character’s mentor. The dynamic plays out at different levels even in the court. I also observed Akshaye -- he has a different approach to his part. I felt we both can’t be dramatic or loud in the room, so I approached my character’s behaviour differently.”
