Rhea Chakraborty, Nora Fatehi, Jacqueline Fernandez: Bollywood actresses who were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate

The Bollywood industry has been facing tough times of late. After the sudden demise of Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020, a lot of celebs came under the scanner of the Narcotics Control Bureau and Enforcement Directorate. Sushant’s family accused his girlfriend and actress Rhea Chakraborty of his death and financial misappropriations. On Thursday morning, Nora Fatehi was summoned by the ED in a money laundering case. Here’s taking a look at actresses who have been grilled by the investigating agency in the past:

Rakul Preet Singh

Rakul Preet Singh, who recently celebrated her birthday, was summoned by the ED in September this year. She was called for the investigation in regards to a money laundering case involving a high-end drug racket that was busted in 2017. She was interrogated by the officials for more than five hours. The actress was asked to produce her bank statements as there was an alleged suspicious transaction. Last year, after Sushant’s demise, Rakul was questioned by the NCB in an alleged drug case, during which she was interrogated about a reference to a word ‘doob’, which had appeared in her WhatsApp conversations with Rhea Chakraborty.

Yami Gautam

Yami Gautam, who recently got married to filmmaker Aditya Dhar, was summoned by the agency in July this year. She was called to record her statement in connection with alleged irregularities under FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act). The ED found that Yami had received Rs 1.5 crore in her bank account from foreign countries, which she didn’t disclose. She was summoned last year too, but had failed to appear in the ED office due to restrictions during the pandemic.

Rhea Chakraborty

Rhea Chakraborty and her family were grilled by the investigating agency last year after Sushant passed away. His family accused her family of financial misappropriations. She was being questioned about Rs 15 crore. After their investigation, the agency reportedly found “nothing suspicious or irregular” in alleged money transactions with Rhea. An ED source earlier told Mumbai Mirror, “It appears there were some misconceptions on their part. (Rajput's) family had no idea about his finances or how he conducted his financial activities. For instance, he made payments, including taxes, through his chartered accountant/s, and of course, the family would not have known about such things”.

Nora Fatehi

Nora Fatehi, too, has been called for an investigation in the same money laundering case. She was seen visiting the ED office on Thursday afternoon. According to Times Now, ED is looking into various people who are directly or indirectly connected to this case. It is being reported that the ED is looking into the possibility that money was invested abroad and it was led by Sukesh Chandrashekar, an accused in a bribery matter. They had raided Sukesh and his wife Leena Maria-Paul’s house previously. Reports also say that ED believes that Bollywood celebs are active participants in this entire case. Earlier in August, the ED had said that it had raided a luxurious beach bungalow located in Chennai and seized Rs 82.5 lakh in cash, 2 kg gold, 16 luxury cars and other high-end items in this case.

Jacqueline Fernandez

In September this year, Jacqueline was seen arriving at the NCB office to record her statement in a money laundering case. According to ED sources, the actress was questioned as a victim in the case of alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The case is based on an FIR filed by Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) against Sukesh and others over alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, and extortion of about Rs 200 crore. Her statement was recorded under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). She has been summoned again in the same case on October 15.
