'Peddi' actor
Janhvi Kapoor could soon be seen in a genre she has never explored before. According to recent reports, the actress is in advanced discussions for a creature horror film that is being planned on a large scale. The project is said to be one of the key films currently under consideration as Janhvi evaluates her future lineup. While no official announcement has been made, industry reports suggest the conversations have progressed significantly. The film is expected to combine horror elements with an expansive cinematic world.
Rahi Anil Barve linked to the project
The film is reportedly being directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the filmmaker best known for the acclaimed horror-fantasy 'Tumbbad'. Pinkvilla reports indicate that early groundwork has already begun behind the scenes. The makers are said to be targeting a production start later this year. Following the release of 'Peddi', Janhvi Kapoor is reportedly taking her time before finalising her next film. Several scripts are believed to be under consideration.
According to Pinkvilla, “Janhvi Kapoor is currently reading scripts and discussing potential projects for her next feature film. She has shown keen interest in the creature horror film to be directed by Rahi Anil Barve. The prep work is already underway, and the makers are hoping to begin production later this year." The report suggests that the actress is carefully evaluating projects that can offer something different from her previous work.
Extensive preparation expected for the role
The reported project may require significant preparation from Janhvi Kapoor. Sources suggest the role demands a deeper level of character immersion than a conventional commercial entertainer.
If she signs the film, the actress is expected to participate in extensive workshops and preparation sessions. These exercises are reportedly being designed to help her adapt to the film's unique tone and setting.
Although Janhvi has appeared in horror-related projects before, this would be her first venture into a full-fledged creature horror narrative.
Her previous experiences in the genre include Ghost Stories and the horror-comedy Roohi.
Debate around 'Peddi' continues
Janhvi Kapoor was most recently seen in Buchi Babu Sana's 'Peddi' alongside Ram Charan. Since the film's release on June 4, discussions surrounding her character have expanded into a broader debate about the portrayal of women in mainstream cinema. During the ongoing conversation, veteran actress Jaya Bachchan shared her perspective while speaking to Deccan Chronicle. She said, “Nobody ever dared to cross the line with me. I had only one unpleasant experience of being objectified by the director. I never worked with him again.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan also addressed the topic and spoke about the distinction between sensuality and objectification on screen. “I believe being sensual on screen has nothing to do with wearing revealing clothes or being objectified,” she said, citing Kajol in ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’,
Sridevi in ‘Tere Mere Honthon Pe’, and Sharmila Tagore in ‘Roop Tere Mastana’ as examples.
