Palaash Muchhal’s health scare after Smriti Mandhana wedding postponement caused by stress, not a serious cardiac event, clarifies doctor
Music composer Palaash Muchhal, who was admitted to hospital earlier this week following the sudden postponement of his wedding to cricketer Smriti Mandhana, was discharged on Wednesday. Doctors treating him have now shared a clear health update, confirming that his episode was triggered by stress rather than a major cardiac complication.
“Palaash’s condition appears to be linked to stress-related distress rather than a serious cardiac event,” Dr Dipendra Tripathi, one of the senior doctors monitoring him, told Mid-Day.
Once admitted to SRV Hospital, he underwent standard cardiac evaluations, including an ECG and 2D echocardiography.
“While certain levels were found to be slightly elevated, there was no indication of a major cardiac or medical emergency. Oxygen therapy was started immediately as a basic line of treatment. After initial stabilisation, he was shifted to a general room and kept under observation,” the doctor added.
Doctors further stated that the intense emotional pressure surrounding recent events likely triggered the episode. With supportive care and rest, his vitals and stress levels showed steady improvement.
The update comes shortly after news that Smriti Mandhana’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was discharged from Sarvhit Hospital on Monday morning.
Palaash Muchhal’s mother, Amita Muchhal, later revealed that it was Palaash—not Smriti—who insisted on postponing the wedding when her father fell seriously ill. Deeply attached to him, Palaash refused to proceed with the rituals despite the haldi ceremony being completed.
The emotional stress took a toll on him, leaving him in tears; he was eventually hospitalised and kept under observation for four hours. His sister, singer Palak Muchhal, also visited him at the facility.
Amita added that Smriti’s father had been dancing and posting on Instagram just a day earlier, before suddenly feeling unwell while getting ready for the baraat. Following the incident, Smriti and her bridesmaids removed all wedding photos from social media.
Both families are now prioritising health and recovery before deciding on a new wedding date.
