Veteran actress Geeta Kapoor, who is known for her role in the cult classic 'Pakeezah' passed away today in Mumbai. Filmmaker and CBFC member Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news that the actress breathed her last at 9 am today.
He added that they tried her best to take care of her but that she was still heartbroken and kept waiting for her children till the very end.
The veteran actress made news last year when it came to light that her children abandoned her at an old age home. Mr Pandit, who along with Mr Ramesh Taurani took care of her medical expenses for the last one year, also tweeted a video saying, “#LateActressGeetaKapoor’s friends at the Old Age Home bidding her final Good bye. They all were in tears and under shock. Better than her own kids who abandoned her. An unforgettable & heart wrenching experience of mine. #RIP.” He also thanked Taurani as he tweeted, "Thank U @RameshTaurani ji for being a strong support through it all."
Her mortal remains are expected to be kept at the Cooper Hospital with an official funeral to take place on Monday.
