The flab on Fardeen’s body will soon be a thing of the past. Beginning this month, Fardeen will take five full months off to work on his physique before he returns to face the camera.Says Fardeen, “Yes, I’m going to work on my body. I’ve hired a trainer, John Reynolds from Australia, who is coming down to train me. This is for the kind of films that I’ll be doing as a producer.
These demand that I be in the best shape possible.”
The preparation is part of Fardeen’s dream to remake his father
Feroz Khan’s 1980 caper Qurbani. For the film, Fardeen’s mantra is – flab is out, fab is in. So, what’s it going to be – six packs or eight, we ask him? “It can be either. At the end of it, I’m aiming to be one sexy m
...f
...,” quips Fardeen. And it’s all for this project, which remains close to his heart.
Speaking reluctantly for the first time about the trauma of watching his father fall ill and finally succumb to his illness, Fardeen says softly, “It’s been a difficult few years, to say the least. I’ve learnt and grown from the experience.” Fardeen sees his father’s legacy as a responsibility that must be carried forward. “From the time I became a man at 18, my father taught and encouraged me to be my own person. Generously, he freed me from his own image. I’ve evolved as my own person. Those who care for me accept me for the person that I am. Having said that, I will always be known as his son. It’s an inspiring ideal for me to live up to his name and his ideals and all that he has achieved. He will always be a benchmark for me.”
Friends have noticed how Fardeen has become subdued after his father’s death. Sighs Fardeen, “The image of the partygoer has followed me. That isn’t really me. Yes, after my dad passed away, my responsibilities have increased. It’s part and parcel of the process of growing up. One has to stand up and accept one’s responsibilities. Life is not only about having fun all the time. There are challenges and obstacles that one has to face. And I’m doing so.”
Having said all this, Fardeen eventually clams up while discussing his father. “This is a very personal matter. All I’ll say is, when you see someone you love so much dying in front of your eyes ,your perception of life changes.”
Fardeen is now busy carrying on his father’s legacy as a filmmaker. “For the last year, I’ve been putting together various projects. Many loose ends are still being tied up. I’ll definitely start with two productions and then take it forward from there. One of the films will be directed by Mudassar Aziz.”
The braveheart Fardeen is candid enough to admit that his latest release Dulha Mil Gaya hasn’t done well at the box office. “We were hoping to see it get a better response from the audience. I’ve now learnt that one must carefully look at a project and understand why you want to do it.”
But Fardeen’s previous release with Ajay Devgn All The Best was a success. “So was Life Partner. But yes, All The Best was the big one. I had a wonderful time shooting it. Everyone knew what I was going through. They didn’t fuss over me, thankfully – we were all grown-up men! But they let me know that if I needed them, they were there for me” adds Fardeen.
After his successful act in All The Best, Fardeen says he enjoys doing comedy. “I found my groove in comedy. But it’s also very important not to be repetitive. In comedy, you’ve to be on your toes. This year, I’ll be producing films and casting myself in these, though I won’t be forcing myself into any production.”
Fardeen also plans to direct a film eventually but there are no immediate plans with respect to this. “I’m keen on directing, though not right away. For that, I’ll have to take a couple of years off. Right now, I’m trying to find my bearings as a producer. My father’s Qurbani would be the third film I’ll produce. First, There are two other projects in the pipeline. It was the last film my father wanted to make and therefore very close to my heart. I want to give it my best shot.” On a personal note, fatherhood too is on the cards for Fardeen. “Definitely in the next one year,” he says.
