Malayalam cinema is facing an acute heroine shortage. All leading heroines are either married or engaged, while some of them have moved to the greener pastures of Kollywood.
The superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal are finding it extremely difficult to get heroines for their commercial potboilers. Now agents of the superstars are scouting for North Indian girls with some kind of Malayalee features to play their leading lady.

The latest entrant is Navneeth Kaur, a Punjabi lass.
Navneeth, who had done some music videos in Mumbai, came down to Hyderabad and did a few small Telugu films, and also anchored a television show. She also did Arasangam with Vijaykanth in Tamil, which was a hit. Now, the lass is paired opposite Mammootty in a film that has been tentatively titled Love in Bangkok.
Says Navneeth, Its a great honour to be paired opposite a great actor like Mammootty. Im open to more roles in Malayalam films. The buzz is that she is now being considered for one of Mohanlals forthcoming ventures. If all goes well. this punjabi kudi from Ludhiana may be next big mallu kutty in Kerala!
