Musical horror 3 AM explores the afterlife
The film 3 AM promises to bring about a new genre of musical horror.
Director Vishal Mahadkar has tested waters outside the comfort of his mentors, the Bhatt camp. It also has Rannvijay Singh as the main lead in his first commercial horror film.
Says Vishal, “I wrote this script while doing a writing course in Berkeley and my teacher Terrel Seltzer, writer of George Clooney-starrer One Fine Day, had selected it as the best script in the course.” The director, who admits to being intrigued by the supernatural since his childhood, adds that he has explored the concept of afterlife in the film.

He further tells us that he wanted to take the horror genre to the next level. “In India, this genre is too clichéd and outdated. The idea is to raise the bar and make a new-age Hollywood quality horror film, and we’re happy with the way it has turned out,” he sums up.
Producer Nittin Keni (Founder, Essel Vision Productions Ltd) adds, “I’ve always been fascinated with the paranormal. That’s why I had produced the first horror show on television two decades ago. It’s part of that journey of paranormal exploration on screen that attracted me to Vishal’s script.”
3 AM, produced by Essel Vision Productions Ltd and Handprint pictures llp, releases today.
