After graduating from Delhi's Kirori Mal College, he joined the National School of Drama. Following this, he attended the Film and Television Institute of India. He later moved to Mumbai to pursue his dreams. His debut film was Shekhar Kapur's "Masoom" in 1983, where he had a small role and also worked as an assistant director.
