Mona Singh, currently receiving praise for her performance in ‘Border 2’, had once spoken candidly about taking a conscious pause from work to focus on freezing her eggs. In an earlier conversation, the actress shared how the decision came about and why she felt it was the right step for her at that point in life.
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Mona recalled how the idea was first introduced at home. She revealed, “Our family gynaecologist came over for dinner with his wife and told my parents and me that you should think of freezing your eggs. Because yes, the clock is ticking, and even if you don't want to get married in the next five years, at least you have this.”
Singh added that the reassurance helped her see the logic behind it. “You have frozen your eggs and whenever you want to have a baby, you can always rely on that. So, I was like okay! This kind of makes sense.”
Mona Singh's take on understanding the physical and emotional impact
Mona Singh further shared that her doctor clearly explained what the process would involve. Talking about the timeline and side effects, she said, “About 3 to 6 months and maybe sometimes it can be a bit painful because you will go through a lot of mood swings. Your body will change.” She went on to add, “A little bit of hormones being injected. You will bloat some days. Some days, you will not feel good about yourself. But it's only 3 to 6 months.”
Reflecting on the relief the decision brought, Mona explained how it removed societal pressure. “You do it once and then you forget about it. And then get married whenever you want to, no pressure! At least you're not marrying the wrong guy for a baby,” she said, stressing the emotional freedom that came with the choice.
The 'The Ba***ds of Bollywood' actress also revealed that she temporarily stepped away from work to complete the procedure smoothly. “My mom and I, we went for all my tests, and I did it in Pune. I took a break from TV. I took a break from work. I wasn't doing anything. I was at home, and in four months, we finished the procedure,” Mona shared.
Why does Mona Singh believe more women should consider it?
Mona admitted that egg freezing was a costly process when she opted for it, though it has become more accessible now. She described the feeling after completing it as winning a “marathon.” The actress firmly believes that “women should consider (freezing eggs), who are not planning to get married soon,” calling it an empowering option for those choosing to prioritise themselves and their timelines.
