Mithun Chakraborty to be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, to be presented at the National Awards Ceremony on October 8
It has just been announced that Mithun Chakraborty will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the upcoming 70th National Awards Ceremony. This news comes right after the actor was recently conferred with a Padma Bhushan. The ceremony took place in April this year where he was received the honour from President Droupadi Murmu.
And now, Union minister for railways, information and broadcasting, electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw took to X to announce the news of Mithun getting a Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He wrote, "Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema."
He further added that the award will be presented to Mithun Da at the 70th National Film Awards Ceremony which will take place on October 8, 2024.
The actor had earlier reacted to his Padma Bhushan and said, "I am very happy. I have never asked for anything for myself from anyone in my life. When I received a call from the Home Ministry informing me that I was being awarded the Padma Bhushan, I was silent for a minute because I had not expected it."
Mithun had started his career in the year 1976 but there was a point where he thought he would only end up doing B-grade films. He had earlier said how no actress wanted to work with him but it was Zeenat Aman who changed his fate by agreeing to star opposite him. Post that, he started getting work in A-grade movies.
For those not in the know, he is holder in the Limca Book of Records for 19 movie releases as lead actor in the year 1989, and the record is still not broken by any other actor in the industry.
