Lagaan, Munna Bhai MBBS, Bhool Bhulaiyaa – Blockbusters rejected by Rani Mukerji
Rani Mukerji has an extensive and intriguing filmography. After her Hindi debut movie ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’ in 1996, the actress went on to make it big with hits like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Ghulam’. In her career spanning decades, the actress has had to turn down several exciting movies. Bhool Bhulaiyaa
Rani Mukerji was apparently the first choice for this horror drama helmed by Priyadarshan. With Rani opting out, Vidya Balan was roped in by the makers and she delivered one of the best performances of her career. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ opened to rave reviews and a second part is in the offing.
Dil Se
Mani Ratnam’s romantic thriller ‘Dil Se’ was reportedly first offered to Rani Mukerji. For reasons best known to her, Rani turned down this 1998 release. Manisha Koirala was then roped in to play the leading lady opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Manisha floored the audience with her innocent act but it would have been interesting to see Rani play the part.
Lagaan
Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan had got all the right ingredients for his 2001 blockbuster ‘Lagaan’. For the leading lady part, the actor reportedly wanted to cast someone who would fit the description of the character. Rani Mukerji was reportedly the first choice for this film, but she had to turn it down due to date issues. The role eventually went to Gracy Singh.
Munna Bhai MBBS
Sanjay Dutt and Gracy Singh’s chemistry in Munna Bhai MBBS was massively loved by fans. Interestingly, when Rani Mukerji was offered this film, she had signed up to play the role of Chinky. But due to her busy date diary, the actress had to drop out from the film.
