Kiran Rao plans to seek Aamir Khan’s guidance for ‘Laapataa Ladies’ Oscars 2025 campaign: 'Now is the time to learn from their Lagaan journey'
She recently spoke to India Today, about plans to take advice from her ex-husband Aamir Khan and filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, both of whom helmed the Oscar-winning campaign for 'Lagaan' in 2001.
Kiran Rao is very much aware of the fact that the road ahead requires careful strategizing. "It's incredibly challenging because so many countries are represented," she shared. "It's not just about expertise but also the budget money invested, understanding how to position the film, reaching Academy members, and a lot of publicity."
She learns from Khan and Gowariker, though she has followed the Oscar journey of 'Lagaan', but hadn't been involved with their camp's inside information at that point in time. Now, she makes sure to follow their experience so that 'Laapataa Ladies' should have a good confident representation opportunity among the Best Foreign Films category.
For the unversed, 13-member committee, headed by Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua, has shortlisted the film. 'Laapataa Ladies' is a film featuring two young brides that go missing in the countryside of India, starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Ravi Kishan.
