Kartik Aaryan, Sonakshi Sinha and more: Actors who put on weight for their roles

For most actors, fitness is one of their topmost priorities. Celebs often spend hours in the gym, along with trying many other forms of workout like Pilates, Yoga etc. While losing weight for movies is not a new occurrence for actors, putting on weight is always a struggle since they are so conscious about their fitness. However, while some use prosthetics to look all buffed up, here are a few actors that actually went on to gain the kilos for their movies

Kartik Aaryan - Freddy

The 32-year-old who has a natural lean frame, has put on 14 kgs for his upcoming movie Freddy, touted as a spine chilling psychological thriller opposite Alaya F. In the eponymous role, the actor plays Dr Freddy Ginwala, who is a loner and keeps to himself. Apart from Freddy, the actor is also reportedly doing Kabir Khan's next in which he is playing a boxer. For this role too, Kartik is expected to undergo a major physical transformation.

Sonakshi Sinha - Double XL

Sonakshi Sinha, who has earlier admitted to facing body shaming has worked extremely hard to attain that healthy, lean figure that she desired. However when it came to doing Double XL, she went ahead and put on 15 kgs for her role. Even her co-star Huma Qureshi had to put on weight and the two were appreciated for the realistic portrayal of plus size women of today.

Kriti Sanon - Mimi

Playing a surrogate in Mimi, Kriti Sanon decided that she wanted to look as authentic as possible for her pregnancy portion in the film. She gained 15 kgs for the role and her efforts paid off when the movie was a commercial success. She has also spoken about her struggle to lose weight post the movie, since the lockdown was enforced soon after and all gyms shut shop.

Hrithik Roshan - Super 30

Apart from mastering the Bihari accent, Hrithik Roshan also had to put on eight inches around his waist to essay the role of Anand Kumar, a middle class mathematician from Patna. After the movie was over, his next outing was War for which he had to sport a chiselled look and incidentally, it was his co-star and another fitness buff Tiger Shroff who helped him get back in shape.

6/6

Ranbir Kapoor - Sanju

The actor, known otherwise for his fit frame put on around 18 kgs to portray Sanjay Dutt in his latter years in Rajkumar Hirani's biographical drama, Sanju. Admitting that he has a thin frame that does not put on weight easily, Ranbir was monitored closely till he achieved the feat. The actor was highly appreciated for his immaculate depiction of Sanjay Dutt in the movie.
