Born Into a Bollywood Legacy

Twinkle Khanna was born on December 29, 1974, in Mumbai to superstar parents Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. Growing up in the film industry’s spotlight, she was exposed to cinema from an early age but also developed an independent creative streak beyond acting.

Acting Career Before Writing

Twinkle made her acting debut in Barsaat (1995), winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Over the next few years, she appeared in films such as Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001), and Baadshah (1999). However, she eventually stepped away from acting in the early 2000s, stating she never truly connected with the profession.

Transition to Interior Design and Entrepreneurship

Before venturing into writing, Twinkle pursued a successful career in interior design, founding her own company, The White Window, in Mumbai. This business gave her an outlet for creativity and sharpened her skills in aesthetics, detail, and storytelling — qualities that later influenced her writing style.

Debut as an Author with ‘Mrs Funnybones’

In 2015, Twinkle Khanna released her debut book Mrs Funnybones, inspired by her popular newspaper column of the same name. The book became a bestseller, praised for its wit, observational humor, and relatability, and positioned her as a fresh, humorous voice in Indian literature.

Continued Success as a Writer

Following the success of her first book, Twinkle authored The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad (2016), a collection of short stories, and Pyjamas Are Forgiving (2018), a novel exploring relationships, self-discovery, and healing. She also adapted one of her short stories into the screenplay for the film Pad Man (2018), which tackled menstrual hygiene awareness and earned critical acclaim. Today, she is regarded as one of India’s most popular contemporary authors, balancing her literary career with social commentary and advocacy.
