6 Lesser known facts about ​Divya Bharti

Divya Bharti rose to fame during the 90s is best known for her roles in films like 'Deewana', 'Dil Hi To Hai' and 'Shola Aur Shabnam' among others. She had made a mark in the industry at the tender age of 19 with her impeccable acting skills. The actress who was at the peak of her career lost her life on 5 April 1993 due to head injuries after falling off the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment in Mumbai. There were many speculations made around her death. While some assumed it as planned murder, some alleged it as suicide. However, the truth is still unclear. If Divya was alive today, it would have been her 46th birthday today. On the account of her birth anniversary, here we have listed a few lesser-known facts about the actress.

Acting debut

Divya Bharti had started getting offers for films at the age of 14. However, she got her first break in 1990's release 'Bobbili' which was a Telugu film. She was just sixteen at that time. The film, a super hit, was also dubbed in Hindi.

​Break in Bollywood

Divya debuted in Bollywood with the film 'Vishwatma' released in 1992 co-starring Sunny Deol. Her filmography includes movies like 'Deewana', 'Shatranj', 'Dil Hi Toh Hai', 'Dil Aashna Hai' and many more. She had also won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut in 1993 for the film 'Deewana' starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Rishi Kapoor. She was a much-talented actress who acted over 14 films in two years of her career, which is an unbroken record of any debutant.

​Marriage life

The beautiful star met filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala through Govinda during the shooting of the film 'Shola Aur Shabnam'. They got married on 10 May 1992. Reportedly, Divya and Sajid tied the knot in a private ceremony, with the presence of her hairdresser-friend Sandhya, her husband and a Qazi at Nadiadwala's residence in Versova, Mumbai. The actress also converted to Islam after the marriage and changed her name to Sana Nadiadwala.

​Break stereotype

Even though Divya refrained from showing skin on the celluloid, it is said that her husband Sajid Nadiadwala helped her to break the stereotype and convinced to do a bold photoshoot for a magazine cover.

​Bharti's last works

'Kshatriya' was Bharti's last film, she died only a week after the release of the film. 'Rang' and 'Shatranj' released posthumously in 1993.

​A film based on Bharti's life

A couple of years ago, a biopic was being made on the life and mysterious death of Divya Bharti. Reportedly, the script was finalised and the film was in the pre-production stage. The filmmaker was out to find a young actress who looked alike Divya, however, due to some undue circumstances the project got shelved
