'Dhurandhar': Times when the Ranveer Singh starrer made headlines

With the high-octane energy and a story that bleeds danger, ‘Dhurandhar’ is all set for its release on December 5, 2025. Revolving around the world of spies, the edge-of-the-seat moments thriller showcases the risk of the underworld and the devastation left in its wake. Ranveer Singh takes the lead in the film, along with some of the well-known faces of the entertainment industry. However, the film managed to grab the attention of netizens and the masses since the release of the first look of the characters, for better or worse. Let’s take a look at the times when Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ made headlines.

First look and the ensemble

Ranveer Singh removed all the posts from his Instagram handle, setting an array of panic on the internet. The first look of the film and the characters were revealed on his 40th birthday, stunning the viewers with never-before-seen looks. With the motto of ‘An inferno will rise,’ the clip took social media by storm, and everybody was talking about it. From pointing out the collaborations with Hanumankind to the thrilling action sequences, the first look created a solidifying impact. Moreover, the supporting cast of R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and more stirred the wave of excitement amongst the Bollywood fanatics.

'Ishq Jalakar-Karvaan'

After the song featured in the trailer recently, netizens started giving their hearts and appreciation for a particular song that was featured at the end of the clip for a couple of seconds. ‘Ishq Jalakar-Karvaan’ was dropped on the apps prior to the release of the film on popular demand. Recreating the Qawaali from the 1960s, the new song by Sahir Ludhianvi, Irshad Kamil, Shashwat Sachdev, Roshan, Subhadeep Das Chowdhury, Shahzad Ali, and Armaan Khan raised expectations from the film.

All about the legal fued

‘Dhurandhar’ stepped into a legal puddle after the family of a late army officer claimed the story is based on his life without their acknowledgement. Major Mohit Sharma, an awardee of the Ashok Chakra posthumously, passed away in 2009 while fighting the militants in Jammu and Kashmir. Aditya Dhar clarified on social media, “Our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification.” After the legal altercation, the Central Board of Film Certification re-examined the film and concluded that the stories have no connection. ‘Dhurandhar’ received a clean chit for its release this weekend.

Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun and the age gap

After all the contemplations and discussions about the ethical age gap between the co-stars, Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun’s age gap caused negative attention towards the film. Under the backdrop of a romantic song by Arijit Singh, the duo, with an age gap of 20 years, were acting in a dreamy sequence. While some hailed the chemistry to be electrifying, others questioned the circumstances and the concerning choices. When asked about the situation, Singh mentioned that Arjun is a child prodigy who could beat others to land the part, calling her precocious.

Ranveer Singh's controversy surrounding 'Kantara: Chapter 1'

While ‘Dhurandhar’ made a few headlines, Singh also managed to create some on his own as the release date neared. Ranveer Singh reenacted Rishab Shetty’s performance in ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ on the stage of IFFI and made a couple of comments that stirred backlash on the internet. “I watched ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body - that shot was amazing,” he said. Many fans pointed out the disrespect towards the culture, calling the deities ghosts. The 40-year-old issued an apology on social media, clarifying that his intention was not to hurt anyone, but to appreciate the efforts.
