Dev Patel ‘slummed’ it out

Gujarati-British actor fine-tuned role of slum boy by getting into ‘reel’ character.
Dev Patel ‘slummed’ it out
British teleserial actor Dev Patel had to go through a longish period of training before he was ready to play the slum boy in Danny Boyles film Slumdog Millionaire.
Dev, who shot to fame with the serial Skins, plays a boy from Dharavi and was taught how to do so by two young men from the same slum.
I picked up a lot of mannerisms from them, said Dev, who was in Mumbai for three months and got familiar with the role of his character in Dharavi itself.

It was a huge learning curve for me, said the actor.
The Gujarati-British actor is big in UK because of Skins, but Dev disagrees, I wouldnt say Im huge. But, yeah, the serial has got quite a following in London. Its a big privilege to work with Danny Boyle. Im sure Ill be looked on differently.
The response to the film at the Toronto Film Festival overwhelmed him. At the world premiere we got a standing ovation. It was an awesome experience, admitted the actor who is hoping this role will make him a millionaire many times over.
