Designer Tarun Tahiliani applauds Kim Kardashian for empowering Indian women to celebrate their 'curves'
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s mid-July wedding was the talk of the globe, thanks to its lavish celebrations and a guest list that sparkled with international stars. Among the VIP attendees were supermodel Kim Kardashian and her sister Khloe, who brought extra sparkle to the star-studded affair.
On the second day of Anant and Radhika’s wedding, Kim dazzled in a dusty peach embroidered zari brocade lehenga by Tarun Tahiliani. The designer recently shared with India Today the creative process behind the stunning outfit and offered high praise for the original Kardashian.
Tarun explained that working with Kim presented a unique challenge due to the tight schedule. The designer was contacted by Kardashian's stylist, Tanya, and had to arrange a fitting the night before the event. Fortunately, while traveling in China, Tahiliani found a mannequin that closely resembled Kim's physique. He purchased it and brought it back on the plane, allowing him to effectively fit Kim’s outfit without her physical presence.
Praising Kim Kardashian’s final look as "terrific," Tarun Tahiliani expressed admiration for her influence on body positivity, saying she has empowered Indian women to embrace their curves. He noted that while fashion has recently become quite restrictive, it’s important not to conform to Western standards of body image.
The designer emphasized that every body shape and cultural background is unique, highlighting that Kim Kardashian’s influence has helped people recognize that curvaceous figures can be beautiful.
Tarun Tahiliani revealed he wasn’t in Bombay for the event, with renowned couture designer Mansha Sahni stepping in on his behalf. Despite the last-minute arrangements, he noted that the process was handled professionally and that the positive energy made managing the pressure easier.
In addition to Kim Kardashian, Tarun Tahiliani crafted stunning looks for a range of celebrities including Isha Ambani, Radhika Merchant, Ranveer Singh, Khushi Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, and Shanaya Kapoor. Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant celebrated their wedding in Mumbai's BKC on July 12, with a grand reception held on July 14.
