Deepika Padukone’s ‘Chhapaak’ joins the rank of ‘PadMan’, ‘Super 30’, ‘Mission Mangal’ and other Bollywood films based on real-life heroes

In an industry where glamour and entertainment rules, there very rarely comes a film that is far away from the glitz and all the drama and yet manages to stand out among the crowd. Those are the films that are inspiring and are based on true stories.

Bollywood is of late churning out stories that are rich in content and the same are garnering immense appreciations from all sides. And now joining the ranks of films like Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan’, Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Super 30’ and others is Deepika Padukone’s ‘Chhapaak’.

Here we take a look at films that are based on real-life superheroes:

‘Chhapaak’

Deepika Padukone dropped the much-awaited trailer of her film, ‘Chaapaak’ today. The film is based on the life and experiences of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The actress will be seen stepping into the shoes of the acid attack survivour who not only stood up against her attacker but also went on to become the voice of the other acid attack survivours.

‘Saand Ki Aankh’

Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar brought to light the story of Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar octogenarians, sharpshooters and sisters-in-law, hailing from a small village in India. The movie is all about how the tow aging champions inspired other women in the country when they demonstrated their expert sharp-shooting skills.

‘Super 30’

The Hrithik Roshan starrer is an inspiring story of math genius Anand Kumar who coached students from the economically impoverished section for IIT-JEE examinations. The movie is all about how the protagonist works his way through challenges before he finally succeeds in running the program for them. All of the 30 students passed successfully in real life too.

‘Neerja’

Sonam Kapoor garnered appreciations from all quarters for the portrayal of her character in the film ‘Neerja’. The movie was based on a 23-year-old senior flight purser Neerja Bhanot on a Pan Am Flight 73 when four armed men hijacked the plane at Karachi airport. Neerja reportedly lost her life while saving the passengers.

‘PadMan’

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘PadMan’ not only garnered appreciations but also made many positive impacts on the policies and mindset of people about female sanitary hygiene. The movie is based on the life of Indian entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented cheap sanitary pads for the women of his village.

‘Mission Mangal’

Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Nithya Menon, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi come together to be a part of the team of scientist from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) who worked on the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) in ‘Mission Mangal’.

While the women of the film were fictional, they represented the real women behind India's first mission to Mars who received global attention, after the mission's success.
