1/5

Eternal mustard romance

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) wasn’t just about Europe or sarson ke khet—it redefined modern Indian romance. Raj and Simran’s story of love, rebellion and family approval remains a cinematic benchmark. The film still runs in theatres decades later, proving some love stories are truly timeless.

2/5

Flawed but fierce

Kabir Singh (2019) polarised viewers but undeniably showcased obsessive, raw emotion. Adapted from Arjun Reddy, the film followed a self-destructive lover’s journey through heartbreak and reunion. Despite criticism, the story sparked conversations on masculinity, passion and redemption, making it a cultural phenomenon in recent years.

3/5

Love in chaos

Raanjhanaa (2013) captured the madness of unrequited love set against the vibrant backdrop of Varanasi. Dhanush’s portrayal of a devoted, heartbroken lover and Sonam Kapoor’s layered character added complexity. The story challenged viewers with its emotional grey zones, making it uniquely compelling and unforgettable.

4/5

Fiery star-crossed hearts

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) offered a passionate take on forbidden love. With vibrant visuals and Shakespearean intensity, the lovers—played by Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh—battled family feuds, desire, and destiny. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grandeur made this tale of doomed romance visually and emotionally explosive.

5/5

Borders couldn’t break

Veer-Zaara (2004) is a soulful Indo-Pakistani love story that transcends borders and decades. With unforgettable performances by Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta, the film explores sacrifice, honour and patience. Yash Chopra’s direction gave us one of the most poignant and poetic romances in Bollywood history.
