Aparna Sen gets Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award

KOLKATA: Eminent film actress and director Aparna Sen was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Satyajit Ray Award for her contribution to Indian cinema by the oldest cine-club of the country Cine Central.

kolkata: eminent film actress and director aparna sen was on saturday conferred the lifetime achievement satyajit ray award for her contribution to indian cinema by the oldest cine-club of the country cine central at the closing ceremony of the 7th kolkata film festival's forum for international cinema. "this is too early in my life to have got the award, i think i need to do many more films," sen, who got the award for acting, said in her brief acceptance speech.

sen, who dedicated her award to legendary bengali actress karuna bandyopadhyay, said her decision to take up acting in a number of films simultaneously had been triggered by financial needs at one point of time. "but when i look back now i realise that i could have given a lot more to the characters which i played then," the lead actress of hits like sonar khancha, basanta bilap, memsahib, jay jayanti, chhutir phande and kodi diye kinlam, said. on the new genre of films successfully punching commercial song-and-dance fare with serious themes, sen said it was a welcome change for indian cinema and would go a long way in getting international popularity. "i have been taking up directorial assignments few and far between. but i think now i have to pace up to make more meaningful films," she said.
