Anupam Kher conquers the US
After being listed as among the best acting schools in the world, Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares is spreading its wings by getting into production of plays, television soaps and films.
The biggest achievement for the artiste’s institute was his new play, Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha, which featured Neena Gupta and him in lead roles and was written and directed by Rakesh Bedi. It had 23 packed shows across 21 cities in North America. For Kher, the achievement was like a personal triumph of having conquered the West during his six-week long sojourn.
The play had its US premiere on August 7 in Houston, which was also declared as Anupam Kher Day in the city. It was performed at Vancouver and Toronto in Canada too. The grand finale came last weekend in San Francisco and Los Angeles when it received a standing ovation from more than 10,000 viewers. That performance rang down the curtain on the US/Canada tour and marked the 50th sellout show of the production, which was first performed in Mumbai on March 7.
