'Akshaye Khanna is 10/10, Ranveer Singh is 100/10, legendary,' says Suniel Shetty as he showers praise on Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar'
'Dhurandhar' has shown no signs of slowing down ever since it released on December 5. The film has crossed Rs 800 crore at the domestic box office and crossed Rs 1300 crore worldwide. As the film has gotten immense appreciation from all over and become a rage on social media, now even Suniel Shetty has reacted to its success. After the release of 'Dhurandhar', ever since Akshaye Khanna's entry song went viral on the internet, he's been the talk of the town. So much so, that many felt that Ranveer Singh was completely sidelined. However, in a recent interview as Suniel spoke about the film, he appreciated Ranveer and said that he was a 100/10.
He said during a chat with NDTV, "I think Aditya Dhar is beyond an end-all of cinema when it comes to writing, direction and belief." Shetty further added, "He realised that people are used to OTT, so he said, you want OTT? I'll give it to you on a larger screen. I'll give you four hours on the big screen, and people lapped it up.”
Using the film’s success as a broader reflection point, Shetty also addressed what he sees as a lack of mutual support within the film fraternity. While acknowledging the role of criticism, he stressed that dismantling films serves no real purpose. “We need our industry to understand that we have to support each other and not run each other down,” he said.
Clarifying his stance, he added, “I am not saying if you're a critic, don't criticise cinema. I am saying to critically appreciate cinema. Say you didn't like something but also acknowledge what is damn good in the film and what could have been better. Not just 'iski dhajjiyaan uda di'. I don't know what's wrong with us. We need to encourage each other.”
Shetty also appreciated the actors in the film, Speaking about his Border co-star, he remarked, “The performances are outstanding. Akshaye Khanna is ten on ten. He is a fantastic actor.” However, he reserved his highest praise for Ranveer, stating, “Ranveer Singh is 100 out of 10. It is Ranveer Singh all the way.”
What stood out most for Shetty was not overt heroism, but controlled restraint. While Akshaye had ample scope to perform, Ranveer’s challenge was subtler. “Akshaye is brilliant, but Ranveer was restrained. He held back, and that's the most difficult thing to do. Showing jingoism as a hero is easy and the audience believes it. But sitting back in another country, yearning for your motherland and wanting to do something, that's very tough.”
Looking ahead, Shetty even envisioned Ranveer’s future in the franchise. “I can only imagine him in 'Dhurandhar 2'. Legendary. Legendary. Hats off to the kid. Phenomenal,” he said.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
