‘Aashiqui’

Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Aashiqui’ wasn’t a big-budget project, but its music made it a big hit. Nadeem–Shravan’s soundtrack gave Indian audiences a new way to express love. From radio to wedding functions, songs like ‘Nazar Ke Saamne’, ‘Dheere Dheere Se’, and ‘Jaane Jigar Jaaneman’ could be heard everywhere. The movie became a forerunner, proving that a strong soundtrack could turn a simple love story into a blockbuster. Even today, ‘Aashiqui’ is remembered as the movie that made the 90s synonymous with heartfelt romance.

‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’

The movie was a lighthearted rom-com, but what made it remain in hearts was its soundtrack. ‘Tera Hone Laga Hoon’ perfectly displayed the clear hands of first love, while ‘Tu Jaane Na’ became one of the most soulful romantic songs of the decade. Pritam’s music gave the film emotional depth, turning a cute comedy into a beautiful love story. Even today, these tracks are constants at college fests, long drives, and love playlists.

3/5

‘Rockstar’

very few movies have fused music and storytelling as seamlessly as ‘Rockstar’. Imtiaz Ali took A.R. Rahman’s powerful compositions to narrate Jordan’s journey — from a small-town boy with dreams to a passionate artist. Songs like ‘Sadda Haq’ became youth anthems, ‘Kun Faya Kun’ touched spiritual heights, while ‘Nadaan Parindey’ carried heartbreak like no dialogue could. Ranbir Kapoor’s career-defining performance was inseparable from the music, making ‘Rockstar’ less of a film and more of a musical experience.

4/5

‘Taal’

Against the background of the Mumbai floods, 'Tum Mile' did not take over the box office, but its songs still stay evergreen. The title song 'Tum Mile' came in different versions — romantic, soulful, and rock — each leaving a soulful impression. 'Dil Ibaadat' touched hearts and became a heartbreak song for a whole generation. The movie demonstrated how the music can surpass the story, making sure that 'Tum Mile' would be recalled less as a disaster film and more as a musical landmark.

5/5

‘Tum Mile’

Tum Mile might not have become the box office’s favourite, but its music is dear to us even today. The title track ‘Tum Mile’ was versatile too — romantic, soulful, rock — but they all left a soulful impression. ‘Dil Ibaadat’ had hit the right notes as it became a heartbreak anthem for a generation. The movie was a clear example of how some music can elevate a film from being designated as a disaster drama into an epic musical that people still remember by.
