Aamir Khan birthday special: Revisiting 7 remarkable on-screen characters of the superstar

Be it Ghajini, Pk or call him the Mangal Pandey of Bollywood, Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan has brought several characters to life as they aren’t devoid of depth. With a filmography of over 58 movies, the actor has evolved from a romantic hero to a perfectionist. With a career spanning over 30 years, Aamir has established himself as an unstoppable and one of the most influential heroes of Bollywood. The 56-year-old Khan is a delight on-screen and as the actor turns a year older, let us look at some of the iconic performances of the actor

2/8

Sanju - Joh Jeeta Wohi Sikander

Aamir plays the character of a boy-next-door, someone who hasn’t done anything in his entire life - a carefree youngster who is full of himself and is always in trouble with his father. Things take a turn when destiny gives him a chance to change things for him. He soon reaches the top and finds a place for himself.

3/8

Mahavir Singh Phogat - Dangal

Based on the biopic of Mahavir Singh Phogat, Aamir played a real life wrestler who trained his daughters to bring a gold medal for India. The actor’s performance was indeed soul stirring and well received by the audience. The movie inspires one to be the best, and always lead no matter what circumstances one faces in life.

4/8

Rancho - 3 idiots

While every character in the movie was unique and significant in their own way, it was ‘Rancho’ who inspired millennials the most. A character spreading positivity and emphasising one to follow one’s passion to gain success - Rancho created a separate space inside our hearts. Also to mention, an evergreen phrase ‘All is Well’ allows one to believe in hope and always keep calm no matter how devastating situations can become. “Kamyab hone ke liye nahi, kabil hone ke liye padho…kamyabhi jhak mar ke piche aayegi…” this dialogue indeed struck a chord inside us.

5/8

Bhuvaan - Lagaan

Aamir’s conviction in the film’s story and its director did the trick. His portrayal of a farmer leading a village cricket team was immensely applauded by the audience. Back in 2001,‘Lagaan’ emerged as one of the most successful films of his career.

6/8

Pk - Pk

With ‘Pk’, Aamir once again proved that he is a versatile actor. He portrayed the character of an innocent alien lands on Earth but loses his communication device. With his performance questioning the blind religious beliefs and the system of fearing God than loving Him, the actor took the charge of initiating a change in the society with a film.

7/8

Ram Shankar - Taare Zameen Par

Till date, the movie has a special place in everyone’s heart. Right from delivering an important message of ‘every child is special’ to normalising a disorder like ‘dyslexia’, Aamir took great care of the subject to bring a change. He portrays the character of an art teacher who guides an 8-year-old boy to overcome his struggles dealing with the same.

8/8

Sanjay Singhania - Ghajini

Set in the backdrop of Mumbai, Ghajini revolves around the story of a businessman who develops anterograde amnesia (acute short-term memory loss) after a violent encounter where his love interest was killed. He tries to avenge the murder, committed by the gangster-turned-public figure, with the help of photographs and permanent tattoos on his body. Aamir did justice to the role with finesse and perfection.
