'83: FIVE reasons why you should not miss Kabir Khan’s sports drama starring Ranveer Singh

Kabir Khan’s upcoming film, ’83 has been one of the most awaited and most talked-about films in Bollywood. The sports drama will be seen recreating the winning moments leading up to India’s victory in the 1983 cricket World Cup. As the film gears up to hit the theatres on December 24, here are FIVE reasons why you should not miss the Ranveer Singh starrer.

Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev

Ranveer Singh, who plays the lead character of cricketer Kapil Dev in the movie, has impressed one and all with his transformation. From growing a real moustache to adapting to Kapil’s unique bowling technique, to practising cricket four hours a day for over six months, Ranveer has done it all to get into the skin of his character. And the result is out there for all of us to see. The ace actor even received a shoutout from none other than the renowned cricketer himself for the hard work and dedication he has put in.

Ensemble star cast

Ranveer will be seen playing the role of Kapil Dev who was the captain of the Indian cricket team in 1983. However, this is not the only central character in the film. All the other 12 players have been given equal prominence.

The makers have got on board some brilliant actors who will be seen essaying iconic cricketers of the era. The film will feature Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Sandhu, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Adinath Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar, Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad, Dhairya Karwa as Ravi Shastri, Jiiva as Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny and R Badree as Sunil Valson.

Trained by real cricketers

If getting good actors and training them in cricket was not enough, the makers of the film reportedly got the written consent of each of the 12 players, all of whom agreed to come on board as consultants. Not only this, the entire cast trained with former cricketers Balwinder Sandhu and Yashpal Sharma at a camp that was set up at Dharamshala Cricket Ground in April 2019. The shooting of the film has also taken place at various iconic locations like Glasgow, Dulwich College in London, Edinburgh cricket club, The Oval cricket ground and others.

Reliving India’s first World Cup win

In India, both cricket and cinema are like religion and when there is a combination of both, it is sure to do wonders. The Kabir Khan directorial will recreate India’s phenomenal journey in the 1983 World Cup. It will not only trace the journey of the players who overcame all odds to win the World Cup, but also shed light on the behind-the-scenes stories of the cricketers, their families and more.

Deepika Padukone

After sharing the screen space three times in the past in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat’, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh will be reuniting on the silver screen once again in Kabir Khan’s ’83. The actress will be seen essaying the role of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev in the film. Not only that, Deepika is also co-producing the film. This will mark her second production after Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’.
