Imtiaz Ali initially approached Anushka Sharma for the role of Tara in the film, but reportedly, the actress wasn't satisfied with it and declined the offer. Subsequently, Deepika Padukone portrayed the character alongside Ranbir Kapoor in the film. The film received love from both the audience and the critics alike.

Allegedly, the film was initially offered to Anushka, but she declined the role, leading it to be taken up by Kareena Kapoor Khan, who portrayed the character of Kia Sahni, with Arjun Kapoor playing Kabir Bansal. The movie received praise from netizens and was also successful at the box office.
