Anubhav Sinha's ‘Mulk’, starring
Rishi Kapoor and
Taapsee Pannu in lead roles stirred up many topics of discussion since its trailer launch. The film that was one of the highly anticipated films of the season piqued the interest of movie lovers with its gripping and might we say, controversial storyline. After earning a mere Rs 1.45 crore on its opening day, the film went on to almost double its collections on day two.
It earned an estimated Rs 2.35 crore on Saturday, thus taking its total collections to an estimated Rs 3.80 crore.
‘Mulk’ tells the story of a Muslim family with Rishi Kapoor playing the patriarch, who are branded traitors after one of their members is killed in a terrorist encounter. Taapsee Pannu, on the other hand, heads back to court again with this film and plays the defence lawyer this time around. In the film, her character raises some burning questions on everyone’s mind while also trying to establish that the family is being targeted because of their religion.
Speaking about his film, director Anubhav Sinha said,"'Mulk’ has a good intent, it is not a political film in anyway. It is a very social film, about everyone. I knew I wasn't going to take a political side, I wanted to take a human side which can't be wrong or controversial."
Despite the good reviews and word of mouth, ‘Mulk’ became the latest Bollywood film to join the long list of movies banned in
Pakistan.
