Akoopar, a Gujarati play based on the life of Maldharis in Sasan Gir, penned by Dhruv Bhatt and directed by Aditi Desai would be enacted at the Thakorebhai Desai Hall in Ahmedabad on May 5 to mark the 102
nd birth anniversary of Desai's father Jashwant Thaker.
Thaker had initiated the Navi Ranghbhoomi movement in Gujarat and was a founder member of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) in the state.
Akoopar would be staged at the auditorium of the Thakorebhai Desai Hall near Law Garden at 6.30 pm on Saturday. It would be the play’s 56
th show. Desai, who has been a faculty member and course coordinator for theatre at JG School of Performing Arts has directed 18 plays and made over 21 documentaries on various issues.
Akoopar play which has a cast of over 20 people revolves around the life of Maldharis, their beliefs and traditions and also touches upon the issues of global warming, secularism and urbanization.
