Bengali families all over the city got together to witness the Dhunuchinaach or ‘the dance with effervescent smoke’, which is performed in front of the idol (protima) of Goddess Durga to the beats of dhak.
At Ram Nagar, a Dhunuchi naach competition was organised by the Paschim Nagpur Bangiyo Samiti, and Gaurav Bose was declared as the winner. A sumptuous bhog was also relished here by the devotees through the day.

At Pratap Nagar too, a Dhunuchi naach competition was organised by Bandumahal Sports and Cultural Association and we saw the young and the young at heart participating in this competition. Dhuna (coconut peel) was burnt and the dancers danced to the beats of the drums. Sameer Balbudhe, who was adjudged the winner, was beaming with pride.
