Remembering Vajpayee the poet

Padma Shri awardee Hindustani classical singer Padmaja Phenany-Jogelekar performed at Ram Ganesh Gadkari Auditorium in

Kolhapur

yesterday. She sang the poems composed by late Prime Minister and when she sang his popular lyrics 'Gana Naya Gata Hoon, the audience burst into a loud cheer.
Maheshwari Gokhale also Jogelekar in between her performances and discussed various aspects of

Vajpayee

's poetry. Gokhale, while sharing her love for the former PM's poems, said that she had the opportunity to meet him. She added, "Amidst his politically busy life, Vajpayeeji managed to take out time for poetry. He once shared a poem with me which he wrote in 1959. His poems were free, yet rhythmic, hence one needs to work hard while composing music for them." The

also had an audio-video presentation where Vajpayeeji was seen reciting his own poems.

Jogelekar also sang songs based on his poems of Aye Firse, Hindu Tan, Mana, etc with Sonali Borkar on the harmonium, Gurav on the synthesiser. Their performance was appreciated by the audience.
