An open discussion on violence against women

Late Shivaji University, recently held an open discussion on 'Violence Against

Women

' at the Rajarshi Shahu auditorium. The discussion was conceived and organised by Shardabai Govindrao Pawar who works for the university. The

event

saw an active participation from students and activists alike, who expressed their views on the pressing issue of women's safety and offered various solutions to the problem, suggesting a need for change in the mindset.

Bharati Patil said, "Women and men are the elements of society. It is a social defect that a woman today is not safe from the distorted view of some men. It is also true that in some societies women are treated unfairly by men. Therefore, no injustice will be done to both."


Dr Megha Pansare, head of the Department of Foreign Languages, said, "If the family system becomes socialist and democratic, it will help reduce the violence and violence against women in the society." The Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shirke said, "There is a need to create social awareness to stop the forms of violence against women in society."
