Maratha pride claims Hyderabad’s streets on Gudi Padwa
Over 300 Maharashtrian families took out a colourful procession on the streets of Hitec City, recently to mark celebrate Gudi Padwa, the Maharashtrian New Year.
The three-hour walk which began at 5.30 pm from the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training in Hitec City and ended at 100 Feet Road in Madhapur saw the revellers grooving to the beats of dhol, as they walked the two kilometres stretch carrying saffron flags in their hands.

Leading the way right at the front were women bikers, clad in richly coloured traditional Nauvari sarees. Decked in phetas, gold jewellery and sunglasses, the women set the tempo for the procession,while not far behind were the menfolk, clad in dhotis and pagadis dancing to the tunes of Vithal Bhajan rendered by the Varkari folk. The major attraction was the lezim dance performance which added a burst of colours to the procession pulsating with energy.
