An art exhibition to celebrate the student-teacher bond

In a unique endeavour to reconnect with her students from various teaching stints since 1995, actor, artist and teacher Geetha Bhascker organised an

art exhibition

titled ‘The

Slate

’ at the

Ravindra Bharathi

premises recently. From designer clothing, paintings, photographs, films to installations made out of scrap, the show displayed various art forms made by her students.

“I wanted to connect with my students outside the boundaries of institutions. It was my way of giving something back to them for making me a teacher,” said Geetha.
The exhibition celebrated the student-teacher bond and was a kind of a reunion for Geetha and her pupils through the medium of art. Each of the artwork was accompanied by a brief note that reminisced fond memories of the respective artists about their teacher.

“This series is a reminder for everyone that art is a worthy career choice and a perfect stress buster in today’s fast-paced world. The series also helped people know a little more about me. For instance, now they know that I was a teacher before I turned an actor. I am also planning to host a similar series dedicated to poetry in the near future,” she said, adding that a portion of the proceeds from the show will go towards facilitating medical needs of a student.

The show was also graced by politician K Taraka Rama Rao and Geetha’s son Tharun Bhascker, among other dignitaries.
