Bihar girl on ‘nirjala’ fast dies in Ponda
Ponda: Khushi Kumari, 18, a native of Bihar died after severe chest pain late Tuesday. Police said the girl was on ‘nirjala’ (without water) fast for the last two days.
Ponda police said the girl complained of severe chest pain on Tuesday evening and by the time her family got an ambulance, she started vomiting. She was rushed to the Ponda sub-district hospital where medical officers on duty declared her ‘brought dead’.
Quoting her family, police said the girl was observing fast for four days in a week and when her condition deteriorated on Tuesday evening she was on fast, without even water, for two days.
She suddenly developed chest pain and started vomiting.
Assuming that her blood pressure must have dropped, her family members gave her water with salt and while drinking the water, she fell unconscious.
Her body has been preserved at the Hospicio mortuary, Margao, for an autopsy likely to be conducted on Thursday.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death at the Ponda police station under Section 174 of the CrPC. Ponda PSI Yogesh Gaonkar is conducting further investigation.
