After all the various typically Punjabi celebrations, including a boisterous and colourful sangeet ceremony, Karanjit Singh Sandhu, the brother of shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu, got married to Meher Bajwa. And while their sangeet had lots of their friends in attendance, including many shooters and golfers – since Karanjit is a golfer – the wedding was a quieter family affair.
The reception a day later was another fun do, with Meher’s friends and family from Canada also present.
TWICE THE HAPPINESS: It was double the celebration for the family as Kangan, Manavjit’s wife, is four months pregnant. “It is a double celebration at home and the whole family is excited about the baby. I really wanted to dance at my devar’s wedding, but I wasn’t allowed by the doctor,” said Kangan, laughing. She looked pretty at the reception in a gold sari and a big red flower in her hair, attending to guests beside the tall Manavjit, who looked rather statuesque with a shawl wrapped over one shoulder.
BACHCHE SETTLE HO GAYE: Of course, both sets of parents – Karanjit’s parents Neeta and Gurbir Singh Sandhu and Meher’s parents Ninoo and Jaspal Bajwa – were all smiles. Meher’s dad was heard telling a friend that they’d have to start spending more time in Delhi (they divide their year between Canada and India), now that Meher was married here. “The plan is to spend summers there and the winters here,” he laughed. There were many friends and acquaintances from abroad too.
