The Chandigarh
The shoemaker Fyodor, spends his time drinking and cursing those who are of a higher position than him. However a chance arises when one of Fyodor's customers reveals himself to be the Devil. Fyodor wastes no time on morality and immediately attempts to make a deal with the Devil, he asks him to become a rich man and The Devil asks for his soul in return. Fyodor agrees, but on the condition that he gets to live out his rich life. Fyodor then awakens as a rich man. He is presented with a feast and is at once marvelled at the amount he has been given. He is granted ever growing amounts of money and the chance to look down on a man who was once above him. Fyodor initially loves this life, but soon things change. When he goes out into the town, he begin to act as he once did and is ridiculed for it. He sings in the street, and is heckled for acting like a beggar. His usual activity is labeled as disorderly and he begins to stop enjoying his rich life. When the Shoemaker finally realizes that the rich life is not all he wanted, he is taken to hell.
Sangeet Natak Akademi
organized CSNA Theatre Festival-2019 from October 14 to 17 at Tagore Theatre. One of the plays, Khwaahish’ revolved around the tale of a poor cobbler who dreams of wealth and riches. He is mocked by the higher class of society and ultimately wishes to higher his position from his daily routine.The shoemaker Fyodor, spends his time drinking and cursing those who are of a higher position than him.
