Mama Shakuni and Dronacharya of 1980s Mahabharat are back

The character actors, who became a household name in late 1980s, owing to their roles in BR Chopra’s mythological epic Mahabharat, are taking the stage to portray same iconic roles once again. With Mahabharat with a twist (it will be from Karna and Duryodhana’s perspective) on anvil in a stage play form, it will provide audiences a re-look into the epic. The whole play will be in a poetic form. According to the sources, director’s instant pick for a grand play turned out to be Goofy Paintal (to play Shakuni Mama) and Surendra Pal (to play Dronacharya). The primary character of Duryodhana will be essayed by Puneet Issar. “A lot of things were considered before roping them in for the project. While Nitish Bharadwaj (who played Lord Krishna), Pankaj Dheer (Karna) and some more were also discussed, the things could not work out owing to the demand of the new character,” a source said. In the play, Urvashi Dholakia will make her debut on stage as

Draupadi
