Depicting nature through art, in all its forms in this exhibition in city
Inspired by nature, art curator Mehak Bhan is hosting an exhibition, titled 'Naturally' in city till November 22. Works of 13 contemporary artists are on display. “From the serene landscapes of Bhaskar Rao Botcha, to the contemplative horizons of Vinod Sharma, and the vibrant, life-affirming forms of Ganapati Hegde and Pappu Bardhan, the artworks invite us to slow down, to reflect, and to reconnect with what lies beyond the surface. Through the interplay of light, color, and texture, artists like Sucharita Sengupta Suri also remind us of nature's quiet, enduring power and its ability to evoke a deep emotional response,” says Mehak.
The exhibition also displays ceramics by Anuja, who combines textures with organic forms. Dolly Dhillon, Manish Chavda, Samir Mohanty, and Shuvankar Maitra merge the essence of nature with subjective expressions. from landscapes, abstract interpretations, and minute detailing, the exhibition rests on life as its core narrative.
Says Bhaskar, whose works are themed on tree of life, “Growing up on a farm full of fruiting trees in Andhra Pradesh is the reason I am connected to my art, to nature. Trees are an intrinsic part of my life. We come from a heritage where trees are worshipped. Trees give me immense joy, they instill in me a belief, and I find connecting to nature therapeutic. Everywhere I go, I collect stories connected to them and bring them alive on my canvas.”
With roots in Kumta, in Karnataka, Ganapati Hegde too draws from nature. “Rapid urbanisation has led to the deterioration of the Western Ghats, and loss of indigenous species. My art strives to focus on the real wealth - nature, and encourage people to restore and preserve it and not give into the greed of urbanisation,” he says. Till 2020, Sucharita Sengupta Suri’s primary work was that of a graphic designer, running her design studio and filling her sketchbook whenever she got the small breaks from work and kids. “It was during the lockdown that I realised the beauty and stillness of nature. My house in Mumbai is right next to the mangroves, and when the lockdown happened, birds frequented the area more. Nature allows me to enter its world, and create a whole new world filled with these surreal, whimsical creatures and creations of imagination,” she shares.
