On
World Cancer Day, a Mohali hospital
organised a series of events as part of the ‘Cancer Week’ from February 4 to 11. Cancer survivors, with various types of cancers of the breast, lung, neck and cervical also participated and kicked off the event with the lamp-lighting ceremony. This was followed by the Saraswati Vandana, the prayer meet. A lecture on cancer awareness by
Dr Rajeev Bedi
, Director, Oncology was also delivered.
Nursing staff and employees of the oncology ward presented a skit to sensitise the audience on cancer.
Dr Naval Bansal
, Endocrine & Breast Cancer Surgeon then gave a detailed analysis on breast cancer and its symptoms.
Dr Swapna Misra
, Director, Obstetrics & Gynaecology also discussed the importance of self-breast examination techniques. She added, "Early cancer detection is the key to timely treatment. It is important to stay aware, to stay safe from cancer. Women must remember this- pap smear, once a year to prevent cervical cancer."
A panel discussion on dispelling myths about cancer was also held and invited a round of applause from the gathering.
In her address, Madhavi Chikhale, Chief of Nursing
emphasized on spreading awareness about cancer and sensitising people about the need for getting regular screening for cancer.
