A marathon that brought together a vibrant blend of lifestyle and cultural celebration
Approximately 1,000 runners came together for the first-ever marathon of New Chandigarh recently. The run transformed the city’s most scenic, traffic-free roads into a celebration of lifestyle, wellness and Punjabi spirit. Organised as the maiden New Chandigarh Marathon, it was fully supported by the Punjab Police who ensured that the roads remained free of traffic on the marathon route. Speaking on the occasion, Gurinder Bhatti, said, “The run reflects our philosophy, bringing together wellness, culture, community and premium living."
The marathon was not just a sporting event but a complete lifestyle experience. With a specially curated Punjabi village theme, vibrant cultural décor and international kite flyiing adding colour to the skyline, the event truly lived up to its theme – Run for Punjab. Participants ran through one of the most picturesque routes of New Chandigarh, completely free from vehicular traffic, offering a rare opportunity to experience the city’s natural beauty in its purest form. From professional runners to fitness enthusiasts and families, the event reflected a growing culture of mindful living and community engagement.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier unveiled the official jersey of the marathon, underlining the importance of sports and healthy lifestyles in the state’s vision.
The marathon was flagged off from a school and featured multiple race categories, including full marathon, half marathon, 10 km and 5 km runs.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, international kite flying activities captivated participants and spectators alike, reinforcing the event’s positioning as a lifestyle festival rather than just a race.
