As many as 20 artistes from Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura,

West Bengal

, and the union territory of

Andaman and Nicobar Islands

took part in a cultural festival held at Bhanjakala Mandap in the city recently.

Prativa Utsav

, was organised by the

Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre

(EZCC), Kolkata, which is a cultural body under the ministry of culture, in association with Odia language, literature and

culture department

and Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy (OSNA). It’s a platform for young talented artistes from the eastern zone of India to showcase their talent under the scheme, Support to Young Artistes. We saw various performances in the two-day event,” said Bijay Jena, secretary, OSNA.

EZCC is one among seven such zonal cultural centres set up by the central government with a view to culturally integrate the states and union territories as part of the programme aimed at national integration. The performances were presented by artistes from the field of music and dance and all were aged between 18 and 35. Most of the artistes who performed in the event were mostly scholarship and fellowship holders from the ministry of culture.

On the first evening, Jagyanseni Biswal played

Odissi music

, Arup Kumar Das played Pakhwaj, Hindola Sinha and Mugdha Basu played

violin

, Md Salim played flute, Ritika Mandal staged an Odissi performance, Madhuka Dutta, Arshia Rosaleen and Debashree Ojha performed Kathak dance and Mahima staged a Bhojpuri dance performance.

On the second evening, Rashbihari Nath played Odissi music, Rudra Prasad parida played flute, Sarada Prasanna Das played violin, Pinaki Das staged Odissi dance, Nandini Sengupta performed Kathak dance followed by an Odissi performance by Chinmaya Das, Mayuri Krishna Sahoo and Chtena Jyoti Maharana. Gayatri Satpathy staged a Kathak dance while Deepak Kumar concluded the festival with a folk dance of Bihar.
