Folk dances from Nagaland, Tripura and Manipur keep audiences hooked

Under the fifth anniversary celebrations of the

Tribal Museum

artistes from the states of Nagaland, Tripura, manipur and Mizoram came down to Bhopal to present power packed performances, based on their folk dances and stories. The evening kicked off with about 20 artistes from

Nagaland

presenting a mock war scenario with the appropriate war-time costumes and props. The dancers from a Naga Tribe, who were performing the dance used real silver, brass and iron ornaments and props. It was closely followed by artistes of

Tripura

performing two folk dances of Mamita, which is their cultural festival from back home.

The later performances showcased artistes from Manipur presented Koigu-Na-Laam (the bee dance), followed by the folk dance Gaan Laam which is the folk dance of

Kabui Naga

tribes of Manipur. The bee dance showed the journey of a honey bee who wanders from one flower to the other in search of nectar. The event concluded with folk dances Buh-Jaa-eh and

Sarlam Kaaye

by the artistes of Mizoram. Buh-Jaa-eh was presented with rhythmic bamboo movements with artistes decked up in colourful traditional costumes, while Sarlam Kaaye depicted a mock fight between tribes.
