Chakri Nritya enthralls the audience at this cultural event

Under the 'Gamak' series held by Tribal Museum in Bhopal, that gives a chance to folk dancers of various tribes to showcase their talent. This time, Shivnarayan and his troupe from Rajasthan performed the Chakri folk dance that is native to their region of the state.
This form of dance is performed in Kota, Baran and Bandi regions of Rajasthan during festivals like Holi and Diwali. In the older days, beggars and seekers of alms on the streets used to perform this for the Kings and Queens of the state. The women who perform the dance don a ghaghra that has 80 kalis and they also don solah shringar to please the audience. On the beats of dhol, nagade and manjeere - these women perform tight and mind-whirling chkkars (circles) while dancing, Hence the name Chakri.

The dancers here, were accompanied by dhol, nagada and manjeera, which are the traditional musical instruments used in folk dances of Rajasthan. The audience were rightly swept off the feet looking at the amazing and dexterous performance of the ladies of the troupe. They also showered appreciation on them for their hardwork and grace.
