‘Karnataka may be diverse, but the language is what binds us’

Coming from different parts of Karnataka, actors Aravind KP from Udupi and Divya Uruduga from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga, tell us that it is the language that continues to be the binding factor among so many people from across Karnataka. “Every 100 kilometres in Karnataka, you will find that the culture and dialect changes. But what binds us together is the language and our love for the language. There is a certain beauty in speaking the Kannada language. Our true emotions can come out only in Kannada and we can speak our heart out only in Kannada. Every day is Karnataka Rajyotsava for us Kannadigas. But, having a specific day to celebrate Karnataka and its unique cultures can serve as a wake up call to a few people who may be drifting away from the language. It’s like a tap on their shoulders to not forget their
roots,” they say.

“We come from different cultures, but when we came to Bengaluru, the place felt like home. The city is a melting pot of so many cultures. It is so diverse and so beautiful. The oomph factor here is, of course, the Kannadigas who celebrate the language and culture every day,” they add.
