Artistes to celebrate Lord Krishna on Sharad Poornima

Indian classical musicians Bharathi Pratap (vocals), Sabir Khan (sarangi) and Jayateerth Mevundi (vocals) will take the stage next week to celebrate Sharad Poornima. The 13^th edition of the concert, titled Dhaval Nisha, has been organised by Pancham Nishad. In the past, renowned classical musicians like Ganasaraswati Kishori Amonkar, Rajan and Sajan Misra, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Parveen Sultana and Pandit Satish Vyas, among others, have been part of the show.
“Sharad Poornima is a night of brilliant moonshine, when mother nature, nurtured by the monsoon showers, fills the air with fragrances of fresh blooms. It’s an ancient belief that in the silvery light of the moon, Lord Krishna does the Raasleela, a divine play where he dances with the gopis. My dada guru, Ustad Khadim Hussain, would often say, ‘Kanha ke bina gaana nahin.’ So, I will try to evoke Krishna’s presence through my performance,” says vocalist Bharathi Pratap, as she talks about her performance on October 24, at Nehru Centre, Worli.
Sharad Poornima falls in the month of Ashwin as per the Hindu calendar. “Ashwin means blue and this full moon exudes the calm and peace associated with this colour. This night has both mythological and scientific importance,” says Shashi Vyas, director of Pancham Nishad.
