There aren't too many acts from Australia that have met with the same kind of success as 'Savage Garden'. After perhaps the 'Bee Gees', one would be hard pressed to think of another act that has struck gold with their easy-on-the-ear pop format. And rightly enough, this collection contains all the hits they have produced.
The sense of freshness and urgency that defined some of their more upbeat numbers is conveyed beautifully in the opener, 'I Want You', which is probably their most memorable hit, still fresh-sounding, given the time that has passed since its release. And then of course, no 'Savage Garden' collection can be complete without 'To The Moon and Back', a polished pop love song done in a manner that only they can produce. Almost all of the songs in here are about relationships and in praise of a woman's love. And it's all done in a way that sounds smooth, romantic and also ' because there exist remixes of these songs elsewhere ' danceable. However, the tidiness of this album (given the somewhat predictable collection of hits) also makes you wonder why they didn't go out on a limb to make things a bit different and include a disk of outtakes, alternate versions or even perhaps a hitherto unreleased concert. Nonetheless, as the band haven't really released such a collection before, this one makes good commercial sense. A good one for the fans.
